Summer in Suffolk Museums

Make. Explore. Play. Discover.

Summer in Suffolk Museums returns in 2023 to bring families a huge variety of events, activities and workshops over the school holidays. Activities and events are either low-cost or completely free to attend.

Highlights this year include Steampunk Spectacular! at The Long Shop Museum, full of displays of magic, music, science and tea-duelling – dances, devices, shopping and fashion.

Also, not to be missed is Shetland Pony Racing at the National Horseracing Museum. Witness a high-speed blur of colour as the Shetland ponies and their jockeys fly over the mini Steeplechase course!

Amazing Animals follows shortly after at Christchurch Mansion, where children will get the chance to handle a range of live animals, learn to understand how they adapt and survive in their environments and find out more about how humans have an impact on their world.

As we head into August, don’t miss out on Theatre in the Park at West Stow Anglo Saxon Village & Country Park, with a performance of Wind in the Willows. Join Mole, Ratty and Badger on their many adventures in a heart-warming tale of friendship, mishap and mayhem in Quantum Theatre’s brand-new adaptation of Kenneth Grahame’s bestseller.

Watch out for 999 Emergency Services Day towards the end of August at East Anglia Transport Museum for a chance to see local emergency services in action with displays and demonstrations throughout the day. If you still haven’t got your fix of emergency services vehicles, there’s also Ride a Fire Engine Day over at Ipswich Transport Museum to round off the summer.

Choose the fun option this summer – choose to visit Suffolk Museums.
