Suffolk Remembers 2020

Suffolk Remembers, a popular and well established remembrance event for St Elizabeth Hospice, lit up Ipswich’s Corn Exchange building on Sunday night in the lead up to the virtual event on Sunday 21 June.

Using motion mapping technology, the front of the iconic building was brought to life with a series of backdrops. This follows the recent announcement that Suffolk Remembers has transformed into a virtual event following government advice.

Pauline Donkin, the individual giving manager for the hospice, said:

“Ipswich Borough Council have fully embraced our remembrance event this year. After moving it from Felixstowe sea front to the filming within the Corn Exchange, we’ve been able to retain the magic of the event whilst ensuring all of our staff and volunteers are safe.”

As with every year, the candles will still be displayed across the large Suffolk Remembers letter boards, with the first letter S dedicated to those we have lost to Covid-19 in Suffolk. The hospice welcomes relatives to share their names of their loved that will then be added to a candle. Please call 01473 723600 to have your loved one displayed in the letter S.

Each year, the hospice aim to light 5,000 candles in memory of those who are no longer with us. These dedications help them to continue looking after their patients in the hospice and the wider community, particularly during this difficult time where a lot of their events have been cancelled and charity shops closed which affects their fundraising efforts.

The letters will be displayed at The Corn Exchange in Ipswich Town Centre for filming purposes with the video published on the hospice’s Facebook and YouTube channels at 2pm on Sunday 21 June.
