St Elizabeth Hospice launches new remembrance event for 2021

St Elizabeth Hospice has announced the launch of its new remembrance event, Daisy Day, to celebrate the lives of loved ones across the region.

Taking place on Sunday 5 September between 10am-12pm in the grounds of Wherstead Park, Daisy Day will provide the community an opportunity to come together to remember loved ones.

The free event will see hundreds of bespoke, handmade daisies displayed at Wherstead Park to form a breathtaking scene, with each daisy featuring a photo, inscription or poem in tribute to a friend or relative who has passed away.

Sponsored by SEH French Construction, Daisy Day will also include a live performance from professional harpist Caroline Hall and refreshments provided by East of England Co-op Funeral Services.

Pauline Donkin, Head of Individual Giving and Supporter Care at St Elizabeth Hospice, said: “Daisy Day will be a wonderful opportunity to pause and to celebrate the lives of special people no longer with us, while we join together with the community in the stunning backdrop of Wherstead Park. 

“We encourage all who wish to make a dedication Daisy to do so and join with us in remembering the lives of those most dear to us. By purchasing a daisy you will also be helping to raise funds for St Elizabeth Hospice and enabling the hospice to continue to developing its services in order to help more people and their families who need its vital care.”

This year is the first time the hospice will host Daisy Day as it replaces the previous memorial event, Sunflower Memories. Due to the increasing popularity of Sunflower Memories, the hospice team took the decision to create a more accessible event, held outside of the hospice. 

Open to all, even if they had no previous connection to the hospice, Daisy Day also offers friends and families the opportunity to purchase more unique and keepsake items to help remember their loved ones.

All the daisies feature a covering layer so their accompanying photo and inscription is protected and can be kept outdoors with their stems also having space to enclose a private message to a loved one, as a special tribute.

Each Daisy Dedication has a suggested donation of £35, a sum equivalent to the hospice providing 14 bereavement support packs to help families through the loss of a loved one.
