Music and community spirit with Felixstowe Harmonies

Formed in 2007 as a children’s choir, Felixstowe Harmonies is now a 40-strong adult female group which has sung its way through a whole host of light classical songs, folk, pop, jazz, musical theatre and swing, in four-part harmony with a piano accompanist or a capella.

Under the direction of local musician Chandra Grover, Felixstowe Harmonies is committed to supporting the local community and is active in hosting its own fundraising concerts in aid of Felixstowe charities.

The choir is a friendly and supportive group of singers who enjoy meeting to create music not only for themselves, but more importantly to share with others. The singers meet every Tuesday for rehearsals and are always pushing themselves to be their best, whether they’re preparing for an event or performing on stage in front of a crowd.

Their main aim is to create truly memorable music and provide audiences with an enjoyable musical experience. The choir has entertained local audiences singing at many of the town’s events. You may have seen them out and about at the Triangle, performing at WAMfest, Art on the Prom and Landguard Fort.

Drawing on its creative membership, everyone is invited to take part in song writing, whether it be a simple lyric, a verse or whole chorus. During lockdown in 2020, the choir composed Across the Borders which later became the focus of an exciting collaborative project between two Sweet Adelines ensembles from Seattle in the USA; PrimeTime Quartet and their sister chorus Song of Seattle. Across the Borders has an uplifting message of solidarity, of friends uniting and how singing has the power to lift hearts across the borders of our world.
