Look Out For The Christmas Hanger On Your Bin

East Suffolk residents are encouraged to check their bin collection day ahead of the festive season as distribution begins.

Starting next week, East Suffolk Norse will be distributing bin hangers to all households in East Suffolk, which will provide residents with details about wheeled bin collections over the Christmas and New Year period.

During the festive season, bins may be collected on a different day to the usual schedule, and residents are advised to check the bin hangers for details of any changes to their collection day.

As usual, residents should also make sure their bin is out by 6am on the day of collection and moved back onto your property as soon as possible after it has been emptied.

Cllr James Mallinder, cabinet member for the Environment, said: “Our partners East Suffolk Norse work hard during the Christmas and New Year period to ensure the frequency of bin collections is retained, despite the Bank Holidays. To avoid disappointment and missed bin collections, I urge residents to check the bin hanger when they receive it as there may be changes to their usual collections over the festive period.”

Normal collections will resume from Monday 11 January 2021.

As part of its commitment to the environment, East Suffolk Council is also urging people to ‘recycle right’ and waste less.

Cllr Mallinder continued: “The majority of households in East Suffolk are good at recycling, but as we continue to deal with the challenges of climate change there is still a lot more we need to do to ensure we’re recycling the right items.

“Confusion can cause contamination, so we are determined to help households reduce the amount of wrong items they put in their recycling bins by making sure they know what can and cannot be recycled. This is important because there is a threshold of how much contaminated waste a truck load can have before it is rejected, so we need to make sure we are recycling right.

“East Suffolk Council declared a climate emergency last year and we all have a role to play in making better decision for the sake of our environment. By thinking about how we dispose of our waste and making the right decisions, we all contribute to a solution. These small changes in our behaviour will make a big difference over time.”
