Homes Of Vulnerable Suffolk Women To Be Transformed In Innovative Charity Partnership
The homes of vulnerable women supported by a leading East of England charity are set to be transformed in a new partnership powered by female entrepreneurs.
Ormiston Families, an Ipswich-based family charity, has partnered with home organisers and personal stylists Edna Brown and Co, to organise, declutter and refresh the homes of the young women supported by their own YouCanBe and Mpower services.
The charity’s YouCanBe service helps women aged 15+ to build self-esteem and resilience following adverse childhood experiences, while their Mpower service supports women who have had at least one child removed from their care to take control of their lives.
Young women working with these services in Suffolk will be referred to Edna Brown and Co by Ormiston Families’ practitioners. They will have their homes transformed by homeware donations and decluttering services funded by grants, second-hand clothing sales and a portion of the enterprise’s profits.
Rebecca May Marston and Sacha Naylor of Edna Brown and Co spoke of their delight at the new partnership and of the difference they are aiming to make.
“We’re delighted to be partnering with Ormiston Families,” Rebecca said, “It’s fantastic that we get to support their lovely service users in Suffolk by transforming their homes. Working with these women, we will tidy, sort, organise, refresh home layouts and add necessities as well as finishing touches – all the things that truly make a home a home.”
Sacha added: “Throughout the process, we ensure self-care aspects are covered, from laundry systems to fruit bowls, to tie in with Ormiston Families’ aim of helping their service users to create healthy habits within their lives. We’re so excited for our partnership with Ormiston Families to develop, contributing to their invaluable work.”
Christian Iszchak, Regional Manager for both YouCanBe and Mpower at Ormiston Families, also expressed his joy at the partnership and the extra layer of support it will provide these young women with.
“We feel so grateful to have been approached by Edna Brown,” he said, “Theirs is the kind of service we dream of for our service users, so when they came to us with their proposal we had to pinch ourselves. The women we support are so resilient and have done amazingly well to cope with a lot of trauma in their lives. To be able to offer them something as practical and luxurious as this is the greatest feeling. We can’t wait to get started.”
Edna Brown and Co are a Social Enterprise, meaning 25% of their clients’ fees fund ‘Edna’ work, including the Ormiston projects. The ‘Dora’ and ‘Alma’ services organise and style clients’ homes and wardrobes, providing a boost of confidence and wellbeing.
Ormiston Families, celebrating its 40th year of services across the East of England this year, recently expanded its YouCanBe support service into Great Yarmouth and Norwich.
