Euan Stephenson prepares for National Karting Championship

We are fast approaching our first race weekend (18 and 19 March) and our first round at Warden Law in the National Karting Championship.

13-year-old Euan has been rigorously testing his new Junior Rotax engine on an Esprit Chassis from Next Karting. We started at Red Lodge near Newmarket and at our old track at Ellough Park Raceway. As a father and son team, it’s been a steep learning curve but one we are smashing out of the park.

After the last write-up, we have been very busy and have had a lot of success. We’d like to say a massive thank you to Danny Huwen at Martello Transport, the team at Cory Brothers and Rob Kersey at KDR European. Without these sponsors on-board, our road to national racing would not be able to flourish. We love our new kart graphics and race suit, thanks to Ipswich Trade Centre who sponsored all the race wear.

At our first test day at Red Lodge, we had the important tasks of our first set-up and running in of the engine. These are vital and we carried them out precisely to the manufacturer’s specification.

The first test day was exciting and nerve racking for us both. Euan showed true class and achieved some impressive times. His confidence grew as the day went on and as the engine began to wear in, his times improved and the engine really started to respond.

The second day of testing was at Ellough Raceway in Beccles where we joined local kart team, JLCD Racing. We were delighted with our progress, with Euan coming alive on the track, clocking 65mph+ and setting some cracking times and performances. The kart is now well and truly run-in and ready to race.

We have had two more exciting tests days – one at Red Lodge and one at Ellough Raceway. This is all before our season kicks off in March when we travel north the Warden Law Kart Track.

As a family team we are learning about social media and how to design Euan’s website. We think the website is coming along nicely – please take a look: https://www.euanstephensonracing.co.uk

We are deep into prep for racing and getting everything ready, and we’re super excited for the 2023 season and for what lays ahead for our Rookie year at the National Karting Championship.
