DIScoverABILITY – Celebrating abilities, Beach Access and radio Time

Spotlight on Felixstowe’s joint venture with Rob Dunger from Felixstowe Radio continues to grow!

We’re building a friendship network of likeminded human battery chargers, a resource hub and media platform for people living with physical, sensory and mental health related disabilities and conditions, their carers and companions, and organisations that offer activities, services and support.

DIScoverABILITY started in Felixstowe and has expanded to include national organisations and DIScoverABILITY Buddies from around the globe. Together we’re celebrating our abilities and discovering countless individuals, groups and aids that help make life better for people living with challenges.

Did you know that Felixstowe has its own ‘all terrain beach wheelchair’?

Rob and I (pictured above) had a brilliant time on Thursday 19 August with Felixstowe’s very own ‘all terrain beach wheelchair’! It’s the first time I’ve been able to enjoy the beach like this for years and knowing the chair is available for anyone who’ll benefit from help getting onto the beach is an absolute joy. 

Huge thanks to Felixstowe Leisure Centre (where the chair can be hired from) for the warm welcome! We look forward to chatting with them more (and enjoying the chair again!) very soon.

We’re a welcoming bunch of buddies with a drive to make a difference, enjoy new friendships and celebrate our abilities. We challenge stereotypes and taboos, enjoy open conversations, help break down barriers and sweep away eggshells in society, have a good laugh and support each other when it’s needed. Get in touch with us, meet some new friends and be part of something super positive.

We’ve moved and expanded our 15 minute programme, which was aired every Tuesday from the beginning of April this year, to one hour each week!
