Hospice named as joint winners of Group of the Year category in High Sheriff’s Awards 2022

Staff at St Elizabeth Hospice have expressed their pride at being named joint winners of the High Sheriff’s Group of the Year Award alongside Kernos Centre and Storehouse Foodbank.

The news was announced by the High Sheriff of Suffolk, Edward Creasy, and Suffolk Community Foundation’s Tim Holder on the BBC Radio Suffolk Breakfast Show with Luke Deal and Lesley Dolphin, on 16th March.

Held annually the High Sheriff Awards celebrate the volunteers, charities and community groups of the county, with the Group of the Year Award recognising groups who have supported their communities and implemented sustainable plans to improve the lives of those less fortunate living in the local area, through the delivery of their services.

Verity Jolly, Director of Patient Services at St Elizabeth Hospice, said: “We are so proud to receive this award, which is a great recognition of the fantastic hard work all the hospice staff, volunteers and supporters put in to make St Elizabeth Hospice what it is.

“It was a pleasure to welcome the High Sheriff to the hospice and, on behalf of the hospice team, I would like to thank the whole community for their continued support, as it makes such a great difference to our services as we develop and expand them to care for more patients and their families in the local area.”

An independent charity, every year the hospice delivers specialist palliative care to more than 3,000 people living with a progressive or life-limiting illness, and their families, throughout East Suffolk, Great Yarmouth and Waveney.

The High Sheriff of Suffolk, Edward Creasy, who visited the hospice on 23rd March to present staff with a certificate as recognition for their award success, added: “The hospice has done an outstanding job in very difficult circumstances over the last two years whilst increasing the support so necessary for patients and families alike. They thoroughly deserve this award.”
